The question “Where can I find you?” seems to be this film’s primum movens, the keystone of a portrait that reflects on its own possibility of existing. The director’s voice-over questions Pascal, an elusive figure who gradually stands out among the non-standard bodies in a blue, rarefied performance. Going back to the last shots filmed with Pascal, the director’s voice and gaze search for a meaning, a presence, that can still be grasped and comprehended. Along this search, the voice stumbles, strives to master a stranger language that seems to rebel against the speaker. With an almost magical act, speech seems to cast a spell, the key to bridge a gap that seems unfillable, to evoke Pascal, now positively faraway. The director’s tension towards the other can only exist in absentia, in a gesture marked by otherness, impossible to circumvent. Thus takes shape a portrait that is at once the place where to return to and meet Pascal, and the condemnation to never decipher his mystery.
